Temple Run:Oz turns the endless-runner chase into a sprint through landscapes inspired by the world of Oz. Playing as Oscar Diggs, you dodge obstacles and flee flying baboons and towering gorillas using swipe-and-tilt controls. Coins collected along the way can be put toward power-ups and head starts, giving each run a reason to balance quick reactions with when to use a boost. The game also adds hot air balloon mini-games, character unlocks, and score-based competition, so its appeal extends beyond repeating the same running section.
Routes through Oz
The game features eight distinct environments, including dark forests and ruined cities, with changing levels and signposts to guide the route. These variations provide different settings to run through, while the signposts help players follow the path. The Oz-inspired visuals give the chase its film-themed setting.
Coins, boosts, and balloon flights
Coins gathered during runs can be used to buy items such as magnets, which attract coins automatically, or head start boosts. The separate hot air balloon mini-games change the pace: players tilt the device to steer around obstacles and collect bonus coins. Together, these activities connect the main running challenge with other ways to earn coins.
Characters and score goals
Players can unlock characters from the film, including China Girl, the Scarecrow, Tin Man, and the Cowardly Lion. Weekly challenges and leaderboards provide goals for players seeking high scores, while the different environments and characters offer reasons to return to the runs.
Purchases and advertising
The app includes advertising and in-app purchases. Some power-ups and items can be bought with real money, so not every purchase is limited to coins earned in the game. It also sends push notifications about updates and new content; these may be unwanted by players who prefer fewer alerts.
