Overview
Penlight puts choices and their consequences at the center of a psychological visual novel set in the final year of high school. You follow Kyou Koyama, a troubled senior who uses a modified penlight to influence classmates while attempting to rebuild his social ties. The story explores interpersonal manipulation and mental conditioning, with decisions shaping relationships and leading to different outcomes. All depicted characters are adults in their senior year. Although the project remains in development, its current release can be played from beginning to end and includes more than a dozen distinct endings.
What You Can Do
⭐ Make narrative choices that steer the story along branching paths, changing how events unfold rather than following a single fixed outcome.
⭐ Follow Kyou’s interactions with classmates as his use of the custom penlight becomes central to a character-focused drama about influence and relationships.
⭐ Explore psychological themes through storylines involving conditioning and manipulation, where shifts in relationships affect the direction of the narrative.
⭐ Replay the story to pursue more than a dozen endings and see how different decisions lead to alternative conclusions.
Why It May Appeal
✅ The current build offers a complete start-to-finish playthrough, so players can reach an ending without waiting for development to conclude.
✅ Its combination of character drama and consequential choices may suit readers who prefer exploring difficult interpersonal situations over a straightforward, linear story.
Things to Consider
❎ Penlight is still in development. The source notes that occasional rough edges or incomplete polish may remain despite the story being fully playable.
❎ Its mature treatment of psychological manipulation and conditioning may not suit every audience. The high-school setting should not be mistaken for an indication of younger-audience content.
Developer
