Lucid - DayDream Screensaver is an Android app that activates the system Daydream feature to display live information on the screen when the device is charging or idle. It shows the current battery level, weather conditions, unread GMails, new SMS texts, missed calls, the next alarm and data from many DashClock extensions. Additional views include an RSS feed that flips through new events and a slideshow of images stored on the device. The app supports several themes and dynamic screensavers, lets users adjust the time and date format, and keeps the displayed content moving to help prevent image burn-in. It is free, small in size and offers full customization of colors and layout elements.
How does the app present battery, weather and notification data?
The screensaver cycles through the listed information sources and shows them on screen while the device is in Daydream mode. Battery percentage, weather, unread GMails, SMS texts, missed calls and the next alarm appear together with data pulled from supported DashClock extensions. An RSS view scrolls new feed items and a slideshow view displays local images, giving users a choice of content types that update automatically.
What settings must be enabled for the screensaver to start?
On Android 4.2 and later the Daydream option must be turned on in the display settings and the app must be selected as the active daydream. The system will not launch the screensaver if the display is kept awake, so the keep-awake-while-charging developer option should be disabled. On Samsung devices the eye-contact detection setting that holds the screen on must also be turned off.
Which customization options are available?
Users can change the time and date format with provided identifiers, select from multiple themes and adjust colors for the displayed elements. The app supports dynamic movement of text and graphics so that static images do not remain in one place for long periods. All settings are accessible once the daydream is enabled in the system menu.
Who finds the screensaver useful on a daily basis?
Anyone who leaves an Android phone or tablet on a charger overnight or during the day can use the app to view upcoming events, unread messages and basic status information without unlocking the device. The moving display and lightweight design make it practical for users who want a night clock or ambient information screen that works on older and newer devices alike.
