AstarVPN -Best VPN Fast, Free & Secure & Unlimited is an Android VPN app for people who want to route their internet traffic through a VPN while browsing or using apps. The app describes features for hiding an IP address and encrypting traffic, and it provides server locations that can be used when seeking access to region-restricted content.
When content is restricted by location
If a website, app or other online content is unavailable in a region, the app can connect through a server location selected by the user. The description identifies streaming videos, social networks and blocked websites as examples of content users may try to reach. It also describes location spoofing and bypassing geo-restrictions as intended uses. These are stated purposes, rather than a guarantee that any particular service or content will be accessible.
The app lists server locations worldwide, so users can explore different locations for region-restricted content. This location selection is separate from its server-speed behavior: the description says the app selects a fastest server automatically, while also advising users who experience lag to try manually choosing a server closer to their location.
When browsing on public Wi-Fi
For internet use on public Wi-Fi, AstarVPN offers a VPN connection that the description says can hide the user's IP address and encrypt internet traffic. The app presents these functions as privacy-related tools for browsing and using apps. They describe what the VPN is intended to do; the source does not specify further technical details about its encryption or privacy protections.
The app also describes an auto-connect setting. Users can enable it in the settings to connect automatically when using a public Wi-Fi network or accessing the internet, according to the source. This is an optional setting, distinct from manually turning on the VPN connection.
When choosing how to connect
AstarVPN is described as having an interface where users can turn on the VPN to begin using the connection. It handles server selection automatically by default, while manual selection is suggested if a connection feels slow. The listed options therefore cover both letting the app choose a server and trying a nearby server when needed. The description does not provide specific server names, connection speeds or instructions for selecting an individual location.
